With the Samsung Galaxy Tab readying to be launched in the US tomorrow, Samsung sure is out to create some buzz about the tablets scenario in the country. As a part of it, the company has posted results of an online survey they conducted. The conclusion? Americans are crazy about tablets! Here’s what it concludes; “90% of U.S. consumers either already own a tablet, or would consider buying one.”
Other bits of information thrown in by the survey indicate that 76% of tablet users would be using a tablet for reading a book. Social networking usage surprisingly, came last with just 56% of the surveyed people saying that they used their tablets for keeping up with their friends lives. There were also a large percentage of users who used their tablets as a music device. That’s interesting!
Now, the problem Samsung has on its hands is that majority of the people opting for a tablet might just blindly choose the Apple iPad. Honeycomb as you might be aware, has a long way to go before it can match iOS on the iPad. Anyway, with Americans all gung ho about tablets, Samsung sure has an opportunity on its hands to gain a sizable share of the tablets market share; and in the process, help Honeycomb better its numbers. Anyway, its D day for Samsung tomorrow when it will finally start selling the Galaxy Tab 10.1 in the US. The device is touted to be the thinnest tablet money can buy at just 8.6mm. Yeah, that’s 0.2mm thinner than the already thin iPad 2.
Note that the only the Wi-Fi- edition of the tablet would be available tomorrow at the Best Buy Union Square location in New York City. It would only be by June 17 that the device would go on sale in other stores across the US. Prices start at $499 for the 16GB version and goes up to $599 for the 32GB version.
