It was just last week that Samsung’s plans to unveil the Wave 3, the company’s latest smartphone based on its homegrown bada platform was leaked – thanks to a rather revealing Android app for IFA. A week later, Samsung has made the news official. The company, apart from the Wave 3 has also announced two new devices known as the Wave M and the Wave Y. Like we mentioned, all three phones run on bada OS, which surprisingly sold more units than the entire stock of Windows Phone 7 did so far this year.
The Wave 3 is the most important of the three launches and boasts of features like a 4 inch super AMOLED display, a 1.4 GHz processor, 3 GB of inbuilt memory (expandable using micro SD cards) and a thinnish frame at just 9.9 mm thick. The phone has a 5 megapixel camera at the back.
As for the Wave M, this one gets a smaller display (3.6 inch), a slower processor clocked at 823 Mhz and 150 MB of internal memory. A 2 GB card is supplied with the phone. The Wave M tips the scales at 123 grams – which if you notice, is even more than that of the Samsung Galaxy S II. But then, we are talking about two products from remarkably different segments here. That was just for comparisons sake. The Wave M too gets a 5 megapixel sensor.
Further down the price spectrum is the Wave Y. This one as expected, sports a smaller 3.2 inch display, a similar 823 MHz processor and a 2 megapixel camera at the back. The phone gets 150 MB of internal memory like on the higher end Wave M. This one too gets a 2GB micro SD card in the box. Users can of course expand the memory up to 32 GB using micro SD cards.
All three devices come preloaded Samsung’s recently announced ChatOn messaging application. The top of the line model also gets an NFC chip. These phones are expected to go on sale by October this year. We are hoping for an early India launch for these too considering the fact that bada has been doing pretty well here.
