We can say that the Galaxy tab is the most sold Android tablet right now, but we are not proud of this tablet as it still runs on Android 2.2 Froyo. Well all the people who are rooted and waiting for an update from Samsung if you can try this method to get the latest version of Android, 2.3 Gingerbread on your devices thanks to Technomancer from XDA Developers for porting CM7 to the tab and RunTimeWorld for showing how to flash CM7 on the tab.
Requirements:
- Root access (if you are not rooted then you can follow the procedure here)
- Download the Rom from here
- Download Heimdall from here
- Bootloader should be unlocked
Note: The file called Flashme inside CM7 beta.zip is an executable file meant only for Linux and some people have bricked their device when this file was flashed using Heimdall.
This procedure is still in a developing stage so flash the Rom at your own risk.
Procedure:
- Turn the Galaxy tab off
- Switch on the device in Bootloader mode
- Open the folder where you downloaded Heimdall, Unzip the file
- Install Heimdall
- Open the folder where you downloaded CM7, Unzip the file
- Open Heimdall, select the files from the CM7 folder in the respective fields
- Flash it
- Wait for sometime
- You will boot into Gingerbread
