They may be among the most stylish notebooks, but one thing that most people tend to associate with Sony’s Vaio series of notebooks are relatively stiff price tags. Well, that might be set to change with Sony taking the wrappers off its YB series, which had been showcased at CES 2011. Although the press release we received was mysteriously silent on tech specs, we are guessing that the notebook will have specs similar to those that were seen at Vegas – 11.6 inch 1366 x 768 display, AMD E-350 1.6 GHz processor, an ATI HD 3610 GPU, upto 4GB of RAM, a 500 GB hard drive, 3 USB ports, an HDMI port, upto six hours of battery life and the normal Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity options. All this packed in an extremely stylish looking package (silver, green and pink options available) which weighs just 1.4 kg and here comes the best part – costs just Rs 26,990!
Yes, we can hear cynics scream “netbook” at this offering, and we must admit that we have seen more powerful CPUs around, but at this price level, the YB series is going to be extremely tempting for those who like to work on the move and well, show off a bit while they are at it. It is undoubtedly a Huge step up from the underpowered and overpriced (if uber stylish) P series. More when we get a review unit. The notebook is expected to go on sale from February 2 onwards.
