A while back we had seen the Acer Iconia Smart A300 smartphone + tablet. This was alongside the release of the A500 honeycomb tablet in India. It seems that the much delayed A300 smartphone (for convenience purpose lets call it a smartphone) is now coming to India as the S300. Acer has announced the S300 for Rs 28,900 (add taxes) today.
Running Android Gingerbread (v2.3) the S300 is loaded with features, a 4.8″ capacitive touch-screen, 8MP camera capable of 720p recording and a 1GHz Snapdragon processor. The display is a 21:9 aspect ratio and sports a resolution of 1024×480. S300 sports HDMI output, FM radio and a metal design. Acer has some UI customization and you would see some of that in the video below. The battery is rated at 1500 mAh. You can read our early impressions of the S300 when we had a look at it back in May.
In the era of Dual-Core processors and full HD recording at this same price range, will Acer score with the S300? Hard to say, it has the largest screen size in the segment and a decent resolution to begin with. Acer would be promoting this a phone + tablet, but Android followers would be asking about an ICS update (Android 4.0) already and we wonder if Acer is a tad late with the S300. Let us know what you feel about the S300, meantime here is a detailed video preview of the S300 (remember it is a beta unit that we looked at).
