We all love to browse the web, be it on PC or on smartphones. And while browsing it is not wrong to expect a distraction-free browsing experience. But it is not the case most of the times with tons of pop-ups and spam distracting your browsing experience. What do you do in that case? In case of smartphones you would probably switch to another browser, or may be install another app to block the ads and pop-ups. If you are using PC you may install some browser extensions or add-ons to keep the ads away.
One of the popular ad-blocking extension for the desktops is Adblock Plus which provides significant ad blocking on your browser. Most of you must be using this extension as well.
Now to make things simpler to you and make your browsing experience more swift, Adblock Plus has announced that it will be releasing an ad filtering browser for Android smartphones! Interesting isn’t it? Adblock browser is currently available in Beta form.
Richard Mullikin, a U.S.based spokesperson for Adblock Plus, who told us that since launching, the Google Plus community page for the beta browser had already had more than 11,500 sign ups. The company will use comments and feedback from community members to fine-tune the browser over time, he added. “It was a natural progression for Adblock Plus to move into our own browser for mobile devices,” Mullikin said.
Another issue that limited Adblock Plus for Android was the fact that the app could only block ads over unencrypted connections. That was one reason the company decided to develop its own mobile browser, lead developer Felix Dahlke noted in a blog post.
“A browser is a good idea for other reasons as well,” Dahlke said. “For one, it allows us to integrate ad blocking tightly into the browsing experience, whereas we’re quite limited in most extension environments, Firefox being the notable exception. Mozilla’s openness is what made Adblock Plus possible in the first place. And since we have to bet on one platform, we decided to bet on Firefox.”
Mullikin also said that Ablock browser will be available for Windows and iOS users in the near future.
Adblock browser will certainly reduce the number of accidental clicks on unwanted ads popping up while browsing.
To download the Adblock Browser, users first have to join the new Google Plus community for the app, and then click the “beta opt-in” link. That will enable users to download the browser, install it and begin testing it.
Mobile security is also a big concern in today’s world as nothing can be assumed to be full proof secure. You may read the article which gives you the details about aggressive ads and how they possess high risk to privacy.
Surely, this move by Adblock Plus will make the developers of leading browser to work in the direction of providing more features that will block unnecessary ads in the browser.
That’s interesting and I like the idea but how do people access my “you are using an ad-blocker, please disable it to view our content” site using this browser? I take it they can turn it on and off easily? It’s extremely ill judged to assume all forms of advertising need to be blocked, it’s how the majority of self publishers like myself many any money at all online.. If we didn’t and couldn’t, why would we even bother?? We depend on ads in order to pay the bills and eat!!
