Although, the Kindle Fire has been well received in the market with the its price tag making it stand out from the rest of the competition, its the performance part that has come under heavy criticism from the industry experts. Fire’s Silk browser too has been labelled as a failure with slow response and browsing speeds.
Well Amazon has decided to act promptly and address some of the issues with a quick performance update which is expected in the next two weeks. The new update is not only supposed to improve the performance issues with the silk browser but address other issues like parental controls and user privacy on the device as well.
An update on the Fire looked imminent after top usability consultant Jakob Nielsen heavily criticized the Kindle Fire and had labelled it as “disappointingly poor” and the Silk browser as “clunky and error prone”.
Amazon spokesman Drew Herdener, confirmed to The Times that an over-the-air update can be expected soon in the coming two weeks.
Though it must be noted that the lack of external volume control buttons and poor placement of the power switch are also one of the important criticism of the low cost tablet by Amazon. And interestingly, Gene Munster of Piper Jaffray suggests that Amazon might be readying to launch a new modified table based on the learnings from the Kindle fire.
There are rumors doing the rounds in the market suggesting that Amazon is already working on an 8.9 inch Kindle Fire which could be launched as early as middle quarter of 2012.
