Google has some exciting announcements about Android OS at the ongoing Google IO conference. Google announced a number of milestones for Android OS and the milestones sure are promising. Here are the numbers as provided by Google for Android.
- 100 million Android activations since Launch
- 400,000 activations everyday
- 150,000 apps available
- 4.5 bln app installs, 1 billion in last 60 days
- 450k developers, 200+ carriers
Additionally Google announced Honeycomb 3.1 upgrade today (starting with Motoroal Xoom Verizon 3G). A update to task manager with scrolling view of all recent apps, expandable widgets and USB host are some of the Honeycomb 3.1. Apple TV would also use Honeycomb.
The next major Android version would be Icecream sancwich. The launch target is Q4 2011.
Also announced is movie rentals from Android Market, titles starting $1.99 (30 day to start watching, 24 hours to complete). You can view on tablet or mobile (Android), and also view offline. Google also launched a new service: Music beta.
