Tata Nano developed one of the smallest but affordable production car. But who would have thought that Audi, one of the best luxury car makers in the automobile industry will ever make a car this small. Well as you can make out from the image itself, Audi has done just that with their new electric Urban Concept car.
The small Urban Concept was displayed at the Frankfurt Motor Show, where peers like Mercedes Benz showcased its spectacular F125! or BMW with its Husqvarna E-go bike. Though small the Urban Concept is still laden with sports car features like carbon fiber body, exposed push rod suspension and free standing wheels.
The Audi urban concept is a two seater, which are slightly offset from each other and was displayed in two versions i.e. Sportback (with a roof) and Spyder (without roof) and is aimed by Audi as its entry level car in its future electric vehicles lineup. The Audi urban concept weighs approximately 480 kgs, which has more to do with its carbon fiber body and slender chassis.
The Audi urban concept has a top speed of 62 mph, which I would say is quite decent considering the design and purpose of the car. It has acceleration of 0-62 mph in 16.9 seconds and reaches 37 mph in approximately six seconds.
Though, it only has a 20 bhp engine which is powered by a 7.1kWh battery which charges in a quick 20 minutes with 400-volt three phase current or one hour with your regular 230-volt household current. It is also aerodynamically designed to generate greater downforce, which help induction charging with Audi Wireless Charging technology, wherein the car can automatically charge itself and the charging stops once its fully charged. Though sadly it gives you a mileage of only 45 miles on a single charge.
There is no word on whether and when these cars will be put under production. Though you can surely feast your eyes on this beautiful car in the images below.
