BlackBerry resumes Roll Out of BBM for Android and iPhone

After a delay of exactly a month, BlackBerry have finally responded through their official twitter account @BBM that its iconic BlackBerry Messenger aka BBM for Android and iPhone. The update will roll out gradually and will be available shortly on Google Play Store, the App Store and in select Samsung App Stores.

The BBM for Android and iPhone was scheduled to roll out on the 21st of September 2013. But was called off due to server issues that were caused by the unreleased BBM for Android app. BlackBerry claims over one million users were using that unreleased version.

To prevent such a repeat, Andrew Bocking, Head of BBM at BlackBerry requests users to follow these steps.

  1. Download BBM – the easiest way is to visit BBM.com from your Android or iPhone browser*
  2. Once you install the app, open it, and enter your email address to hold your spot in line
  3. We will email you as soon as you reach the front of the line and can start using BBM

At 22:01 Hrs IST today, BlackBerry’s official twitter account for BBM announced about this roll out.

Android users can visit their official Google Play Store developer account BlackBerry Limited to download the BBM for Android when it is made available.

Please beware of all the fake BBM apps like the ones that appear in this search on Google Play Store. So do not panic if you don’t get BBM for Android immediately.

Do refer to the tweet for the link to the official announcement on their blog. They have also stated that The iPhone and Android users in Africa will be able to download and use the app in three days’ time while Samsung users in Sub-Sahara Africa can download BBM today from Samsung Apps store.

BlackBerry have made a new developer account for BBM by the name BlackBerry Limited. and it is officially live! (The difference is a full stop.) I wonder why Google has permitted two developer accounts for BlackBerry when they could have clearly done it with one!
