BlackBerry, earlier known as RIM (Research In Motion) today announced the launch of its new BlackBerry Z10 smartphone in India. The BlackBerry OS 10 toting device had seen an international launch a few weeks ago and there were speculations that the phone would indeed be coming to India before March – and that is what has happened. The phone was already available in the grey market for out of this world prices that went as high as Rs.75,000. Those are certain to come down with BlackBerry officially announcing the price of the Z10 to be Rs. 43,490 in India – which is by no means cheap.
There were speculations that BlackBerry would keep the price of the phone under the psychological Rs 40k mark – but that has not happened. It seems BlackBerry is somehow confident of managing to sell this phone even as there are competitors which have “superior” specs available for a much lesser price tag.
Talking about specifications let me remind you that the Z10 comes with a 4.2-inch LCD display that totes a 1280 x 768 pixel resolution. This adds up to a PPI density of 356 pixel per inch which is great! But they, we have better ones out there now. Under the hood is a dual-core chip that trundles along at 1.5GHz. Supporting it is 2GB of RAM which should be more than enough. The internal memory is 16 GB which you can increase further using micro SD cards of up to 32 GB in size.
While there are certainly better cameras out there, the 8 megapixel camera on the Z10 is not bad at all and can also double up as your HD video recorder – capable of taking videos in full HD. The front camera can take 2 megapixel still shots and 720p videos. Connectivity options are numerous with support for Wi-Fi, GPS, Bluetooth 4.0 and NFC.
Idea Cellular has also partnered with BlackBerry to launch the Z10 on their network. The phone would go on sale starting February 26 and should be available across all BlackBerry dealers in India.
