Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd. (BSNL) has made an announcement on Thursday which will make all their users happy. The announcement states that all the BSNL landline users will be able to do free unlimited calls in the night. This scheme is applicable from 9 pm to 7 am.
Now you might be thinking that it must be applicable only to other landline users of BSNL or there must be some hidden conditions. Well there aren’t, the company will allow free calling to the landline as well as to the mobile phones across all the service providers in India. This offer would be applicable from 1st May. This would be a nice gift for people residing in Maharashtra as 1st May is celebrated as Maharashtra Day. This scheme will be initially applicable for 6 months and will be then revised according to the response.
Anupam Shrivastava, Chairman & MD of BSNL said that this move is in order to revive their landline business which has fallen in the past five years from 27.83 million in 2010 to 16.93 million in 2015. Also, only 10% calls are made in the night, which might go up to 15% after this offer. If the company is able to add more customers, then it is worth the attempt said Anupam. He further said that they have copper cable lines installed to support the landline traffic and also they have procured millions of landline instruments beforehand to cater to the consumers who will be tempted by this offer.
Landlines which once upon a time were the lifeline of all the Indians have now become redundant. It could be plainly because of the ‘mobile’ factor or the dirt-cheap call rates provided by service providers for mobile users. In this mobile era, only time will tell how helpful such tricks are to get users back to landline.
