A Chinese industry group has said that the number of Internet users in the world’s most populous country has surged past the 500 million mark. According to the China Internet Network Information Center, the total number of Internet users in Mainland China stood at an incredible 513 million according their latest estimates.
What is more, impressive is the fact that this number is still growing fast – and arguably so. The country with a population of over 1.3 billion still has lots of people left who are yet to experience the Internet with just over 35 percent of its population online.
China already is the country with the most number of people using the Internet. It has a large lead over the United Sates which comes in at a distant second place.
The only potential threat to China is India which currently has just over 100 million Internet users. The country, with over 1.2 billion people has just as much people needed to topple China and also boasts of a much younger population. But then, it still has a long way to go before Internet penetration becomes more prevalent and we don’t see that happening in the near future.
China also leads the race when it comes to the number of mobile phone users with over 950 million users. India is a close second with over 884 million users at last count.
