China, the world’s most populated country, is all set to be known as the number one market for smart device adoption, in terms of iOS and Android activations. On Wednesday, mobile analytics firm Flurry, posted that, China surpasses U.S. in iOS and Android device activations. With a record billion mobile subscribers already in the pocket, this one had to be the next logical record for the Republic of China
The reason, that has launched China into the world’s second largest app economy, is touted to be the country’s large population and its rapidly emerging middle class economy. Last year, in January, China ranked 10th in application sessions and moved to the 2nd spot by the year end. Apart from this, the country also leads in app session growth, with a rapid growth rate of 1100% between the first quarter of 2011 and first quarter of 2012.
The report revealed that, China has now taken the lead over U.S., in terms of smart adoption of new devices like tablets and smartpones on iOS and Android platforms.
In January 2011, United States had accounted for 28% of the world’s total iOS and Android device activation, whereas China accounted for only 8%. This, however, had changed last month when China had accounted for 23% device activation, surpassing the 22% that had been accounted by U.S.
Based on the reports generated, it is being predicted that China will account for 24% of the world’s total iOS and Android device activation and United States will account for 21%. China is now officially the world’s fastest growing market for smart devices.
We contacted Flurry, India and got in touch with Aakrit Vaish, Director, Business Operations to get his perspective on where does India stand amidst all this. He said that, when it comes to India, they are barely in the top 20 for device activations, though there is a considerable growth in app usage in India which pits them at around 6th fastest in the World.
