So far we have seen the applications of the QR codes mostly being limited to products as info tags on them. Though there are a few fun apps available to play around with them not much has been done with the technology by putting it to some other uses.
As we hear the Royal Dutch Mint is celebrating its 100th anniversary and have come up with unique silver and gold coins that will come with QR codes on them. Now that’s some cool way of celebration.
The silver coin is of €5 denomination and the gold one is of €10. These will be made available to the public starting June 22nd. As per 2d code the QR code leads you to the following site address http://www.q5g.nl/ which for now will redirect you to the Royal Dutch Mint’s non-mobile site. I would assume that the website will provide you with some history on the Royal Dutch Mint and also some fascinating facts about their mints.
These coins look pretty cool and will surely end up selling like hot cakes. These coins though somehow reminds me of Harry Potter movies wherein they had moving pictures on their Chocolate Frog Cards. Maybe some day we’ll have those in our newspapers and yes coins too.
