There is boom in the Android world with new devices getting launched every now and then. Be it at the MWC or in other parts of world. But ditching the trend is Alcatel’s OneTouch Hero 2+ which is based on Cyanogen OS. This smartphone too was launched at the ongoing Mobile World Congress (MWC). For now the device will only be available in US and Canada by second quarter of 2015 through Alcatel stores in US. It is tagged for $299 (about INR 18,500).
OneTouch Hero 2+ provides single SIM support. It has a 6-inch TFT display unit giving out full HD (1080*1920 pixels) resolution. For SoC, it is equipped with MediaTek MTK6592M processor with a 2GB RAM along with. The processor is clocked at 2.0GHz and is based on ARM CortexA7. Memory capacity reads out to be 16GB inbuilt and can be expanded up to 32GB.
This device provides a lot for the camera lovers. It touts a primary camera unit of 13MP with a LED flash. It is capable of shooting 1080p videos at 30fps. Secondary camera is a 5MP type. There are inbuilt applications for editing the pictures too. The device comes with an inbuilt stylus. For connectivity features it offers 4G LTE support, WiFi, Bluetooth Smart 4.0, A-GPS and NFC. Battery unit provided is of 3100mAh.
On the design front, it looks elegant at first glimpse with aluminium frame. Though the device has a 6-inch screen, the size has been kept manageable with narrow bezel. This has been considered for the top and bottom of the screen too. With Cyanogen OS 11 in it, it is becomes only the third phone in the market having so. Earlier Cyanogen OS was found in OnePlus One and Micromax Yureka. But as reported earlier, OnePlus is working on its own Oxygen OS.
Summing up about Hero 2+, it offers specifications of premium smartphones but is priced very competitively. More intriguing factor for it is the Cyanogen OS 11. This is designed to provide faster OS experience and powerful options to customize the GUI as per users needs. With Hero 2+, Alcatel is hoping up to set a new trend in the already Android filled market.
