At the ongoing IFA trade show at Berlin, US based computer hardware maker Dell has announced a brand new Windows 8 RT powered tablet. Christened XPS 10, the device boasts of a 10.1 inch display. Dell is yet to reveal detailed hardware specifications of this tablet. We will however share whatever is known to us about this device as of now.
To start with, since this device would run Windows 8 RT, we can safely assume that this device is running an ARM processor under the hood. This is because Microsoft’s Windows 8 RT operating system has been specifically designed for hardware running ARM based chips. The USP of these Windows RT based tablets is that they would be a lot cheaper than the full fledged tablets/notebooks based on the ‘full’ version of Windows 8. Recent reports have suggested that Windows RT based devices could be up to $200 cheaper than their full bloodied cousins.
The XPS 10 tablet also gets a keyboard accessory as well as a battery dock. This battery dock will enable it to extend its usage time on a single charge to more than a day. This is unprecedented for a device of its class.
Dell’s XPS 10 will compete with similarly spec’d tablets from Asus, Samsung and even Sony – all of which have announced similar devices at the IFA. Apart from the XPS 10, Dell also showcased the XPS 12. This is a hybrid device which can be used as both – a tablet and a full fledged notebook. This will also run on Intel’s X86 chips and therfore will come loaded with the full version of Windows 8.
Another interesting Dell product that saw officialdom was the XPS One 27. This happens to be an all In One PC with a 27 inch display. Of course, this twoo is based on Windows 8.
Dell is yet to reveal full pricing and availability details about these devices
