For once, this is not your usual consumer centric tablet. But then, since anything that passes off as a tablet evicts tremendous consumer interest, here is what the Dell Latitude ST is all about. As you might be already aware, Dell’s Latitude series is not targeted at you or me, the normal consumers but specifically targets the enterprise sector and this tablet too does exactly that.
The Latitude ST features an “enterprise standard” 10.1-inch multitouch capable 1280*800 display. It runs Windows 7 and is powered by a Intel Atom Z670 processor that chugs along at 1.5 Ghz. The stock version comes with 32 GB of storage which can be expanded up to 128 GB. For an enterprise level device, it comes with a surprisingly high resolution camera at the back. Yes, there is a 5 megapixel still camera at the rear.
There is a front camera as well which can take pictures at 1280*720 pixels. With 2GB of RAM the tablet should be quite zippy to use – but then it doesn’t run Android!
Connectivity options include almost everything you can cram in – including Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, GPS, 3G and mobile broadband. The device also supports hooking up of an external USB DVD+/-RW. The tablet comes in various variants with the lightest one weighing in at 816 grams. There is only one USB port which should suffice for most users.
The Latitude ST will face off against the recently launched Lenovo ThinkPad tablet which also boasts of similar functionality. More on the device and the specs here.
The starting price of the device is Rs. 36,000 and goes up depending on how the buyer configures it.
