A dinner with geeks after the GizmoMeet Delhi has its own geeky taste. Amongst others, we were served the HD7, another Windows Phone 7 device from HTC. To begin with, it has a 4.3″ screen, enough to; even encourage this geek friend of ours to consider replacing the dinner plates! (Hands-on pictures after the jump)
There is no doubt about the fact that the HD7 is a huge phone. The 4.3″ screen when compared to an Optimus 7 (LG) or the Mozart 7 looks a giant. You can see the soft buttons on the front of the phone (quite a departure from the harsh metal logo on the LG Optimus 7).
It’s tall and broad, but slim! The HD7 is almost as tall as the Optimus 7, but it’s the broad width that houses the extra 0.6″ of screen space 🙂
The HD7 body has quite a polished feel on the sides and the front. The tiny HTC logo on the top and a grill above and below the display gives it a look that is liked by most, but as always remains subjective.
The KickStand! The metal covering on the HD7 camera opens up as a kickstand. That’s a smart way of putting in a stand!
The back of the phone isn’t a glossy feel, or metal like the Optimus 7. It’s plastic but feels pretty decent in hand (and does its bit to keep the wight in check). The 3.5mm audio jack goes down with the MicroUSB port, leaving just the power button on the top.
A long, single piece volume control on the right and no buttons on the left side.
It’s got a bigger screen, but this one appears a little slimmer than the Optimus 7. Technically the difference is 0.3mm, but the curved nature of the back cover on the HD7 makes the difference stand out.
The HD7 has a 5MP camera with dual LED flash, weighs smart enough 162gms and has the usual suspect 1GHz chip with 512MB RAM powering it. While we are yet to get into an in-depth review, we are sure this monster would play at its best with a few firmware updates from Microsoft.
