We have seen flexible displays from Samsung and a flexible smartphone by Nokia but this one by NTT Docomo in Japan is a lot different and perhaps could prove to be much more useful in the future once it goes commercial.
The smartphone prototype here is being developed by Docomo along with Fujitsu has a transparent display which works through touch on both sides.
The see through display currently has a QVGA resolution of only 320 x 240 and is 2.4 inches long. It also has low brightness, which renders it very difficult to view under bright light or outdoors. Thus the tech is currently under further development and it will take some more time before it is ready to be commercially launched.
The video below shows off some cool applications of the display, which includes the ability to hold a Rubik’s cube from one end and just rotate one face using the other side of the display. Most importantly you can play games or control stuff onscreen without obscuring the display.
We hope that this dual side display is developed real quickly and makes the market before the end of 2012 itself. Coz you never know the Mayan calendar rumor might just be true…: P
