As the world’s biggest social network, Facebook marches on – adding more and more people to its bandwagon, it keeps on hitting mind boggling numbers. We have been hearing about this ever since 2009 when the site really began to pick up pace. It went on to hit an amazing 500 million users sometime in 2010 and if we are to believe fresh report coming in, it is well on its path to hit the 1 Billion users mark later this year.
An UK based digital marketing company known as iCrossing has released a graph that shows the past growth pattern of Facebook. They have also extrapolated the growth figures to show what number Facebook is expected to reach in the coming months. The site, which already has over 800 million active users, according to iCrossing will hit the 1 billion mark sometime in August 2012 if it continues growing at the current rate.
The graph also shows how Facebook’s growth has of late slowed down. That however might not be much of a concern for Facebook because the site still has lots of growth potential in large untapped markets. India for example, with a population of over a billion people is still a very Internet nascent country. Only 3 percent of the online population in India use Facebook as of now. As the Internet penetration in India grows, so does the market for Facebook keep on increasing.
Another reason for the recent slowdown is the fact that a good majority of the Internet population in developed countries is already on Facebook.
Anyway, when do you think Facebook will hit the billion mark?
