According to a recent Financial Times report, Facebook is working on a new e-mail service that would target Gmail users to “switch over”. While there has been no conclusive way to corroborate the news, Facebook sure has given away invites for an event scheduled for November 15 which according to many, would be the venue for the launch of this new service.
The reason for the belief that it would be an email service with complete Facebook integration revolves around the fact that Facebook is planning to invest $450m in a new data centre facility in North Carolina. The data center, apart from offering faster page download times might also help Facebook in expanding its services. “The team we will hire here will help us provide faster, more reliable and more robust service to people around the world who rely on Facebook to connect and share,” Tom Furlong, director of site operations for Facebook, told the FT.
The project, which was codenamed, “Titan” was first heard of a couple of months ago. All eyes now turn to the California event scheduled for November 15. Do you fancy yourself using a Facebook email that would sound something like yourname@facebook.com ?
