Well we all have always dreamt of owning a flying car. But till date not even a single car has passed the concept stage. But it seems that its not gonna be the same any longer. Terrafugia Transition is a concept car that can fly in reality, unlike the other concept cars which never lifted off.And guess what this thing has already managed to pass the safety regulations from the Federal Aviation Administration and is on its way to get clearance from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) of the US, as well. Well the NHTSA has granted exemptions for a few missing features like the airbags, electronic stability systems. Also, the glass on the Terrafugia is made of polycarbonate which does not usually shatter like the normal automotive glass. It’s because the Terrafugia is supposed to fly as well and you don’t expect collisions or more certainly want your glasses to shatter mid flight.
There is still some time for the car to take flight with certain limitations like a carrying capacity of 330 pounds only when fully fueled. Also, the price of the car is currently a whopping $250,000. Despite of all these limitations, Terrafugia is confident enough of being able to move into the production phase towards the end of the year. But certainly mass production will certainly not happen until 2012.
