I am amazed by the amount of traction Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer’s comments at Gartner Symposiu has caused. Come-on, you ask the CEO of one of the top tech companies of the the world, what is the riskiest product bet he is working on and expect him to reply back with something he has just released weeks back or is releasing in the next few weeks? Hell no, he would certainly go all out and promote the recent products. So take no surprise on why Steve Ballmer said the “the next release of windows”, its 2 years or so away and you would probably not even remember this comment by then.
As you would see in the video below, Steve Ballmer was also asked on the next billion dollar market for Microsoft (to which he answered Windows Phone 7) and the coolest thing they are pushing out in 2010, he stopped over at WP7 again, but proudly pointed towards Kinect for Xbox! With the pre orders rolling already, we are waiting to get hands-on with the Kinect (again). Now that’s something to take note of from Steve’s commentary at Gartner Symposiu.
Just as people are finally figuring out Windows 7, Micromat wants roll out 8… Brilliant. Meanwhile, the Mac just does everything painlessly, without viruses, without error and with the most minimal effort from the user… Microsoft doesn’t seem to get it… Nobody cares about Windows. The success of XP was a fluke, won by default due to the absence of Steve Jobs at Apple. That Ballmer guy is smart, but not a visionary by any means. They should have left him along with Vista. The best feature Windows 8 could have: IT DIES.
