Fring, the popular VoIP and IM Service provider has announced the launch of a new technology for the iPhone and Android versions of its app. Called Dynamic Video Quality (DVQ), this technology would help the app “adjust” itself according to the quality of data connectivity that both the users at either end of a video call experience.
The app can now detect the variation in data connectivity speeds and overall quality and automatically adjust the video stream bitrates and framerates on both ends. This enables the app to keep the video stream going smoothly and ensure that high audio quality is maintained as well. The deterioration of good quality data connectivity can occur while the user might be inside his home and moves away from the wireless router or whilst travelling when he passes from a strong reception area to a location where there is weak cellular coverage. In both cases, the new app will downgrade or upgrade the video bitrate “on the fly” thereby maintaining consistency in the overall video call experience.

The new versions of the app are now available for download from the Android Market and the Apple App Store.
