Fujitsu has just announced that it is partnering with French carrier Orange Telecom to launch a new Android powered handset. This device, known as the Stylistic S01 is not your usual Android handset. One look at the menu and the UI and you’d be sure about this. While the device runs Android 4.0, it has been heavily customized and redesigned to suit the usage patterns of the elderly. The menu options are displayed in large bold texts and the phone also boasts of virtual buttons that provide tactile feedback – so as to replicate the feel of a non touchscreen handset. The handset also claims to have an audio technology that optimizes the frequency range to match the users age.
The feature set on this device is quite comprehensive and it supports both GSM and HSPA compatibility. Fujitsu incidentally seems to have a thing for the elderly It already has a series of devices meant for the elderly in Japan’s NTT DoCoMo network.
As for the other specs, this one boasts of a 1.4GHz Qualcomm MSM8255 processor under the good which should offer decent performance. For the elderly who love taking pictures, the 8.1-megapixel front camera should be more than enough! There is a VGA frint camera as well that users can avail of while making video calls. The 4GB of Internal Memory can be further expanded using micro SD cards
Fujitsu is expected to showcase this handset at the Mobile World Congress next week. We are expecting that they would reveal the pricing and the launch date of this device then.
