Microsoft Xbox LIVE is the popular gaming services that bags loads of money even after the game console is sold. Yesterday, Microsoft said in a statement that gamers on an average spend one billion hours per month on Xbox LIVE service. WHOA! Billions of human hours spent on entertainment. These hours are spent only by consumers who own game console.
Xbox LIVE is unique subscription based service which has been integrated into Microsoft’s Windows Phone 7 mobile operating system. Think of it in this way. Average one billion hours per month are spent on Xbox LIVE by gamers in their rooms or game cafes. When Windows Phone 7 becomes globally available, imagine the amount of game hours that would be spent on Xbox LIVE on Windows Phone 7.
Few bottlenecks might hamper the path of Xbox LIVE on Windows Phone 7. However, mobile platform itself is so flexible that Microsoft would be happy when more billions of hours would be spent by mobile gamers on Xbox LIVE. People would be able to download trials and purchase game right from their mobile phones.
Collectively on Consoles and Mobile phones, Xbox LIVE is already established enough to be even closely competed by any other Game distribution service. Google is reportedly working it’s own Game Distribution Service, Sony has PlayStation Network and Apple relies on App Store.
After Windows Phone 7 goes global, then it would be fascinating to see how many hours are spent per month on any of the aforementioned gaming services.
