Chinese smartphone major Gionee has announced a new entry level, Android powered smartphone in India. Known as the Pioneer P3, the handset seems to be a decent handset under Rs.8000. Let’s quickly take a look at the features on this one.
We start with the all-important display which measures 4.3 inches across and gets a resolution of has is most likely to be the Mediatek MT6582 chipset – that houses 4 cores running at 1.3 Ghz. We will need confirmation about this but though. The other possibility is that this is just a dual core SoC (MT 6572) that the recently launched Idea Aurus 4 uses. There have been instances in the past when manufacturers have put in wrong specifications. Anyway, we will update this bit once we get confirmation.
The handset runs Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean and at this time it is unclear if it would eventually get the KitKat treatment. As expected from a phone of this category, there is 4GB of internal storage. Memory can be expanded further using micro SD cards.
The phone is a GSM+GSM dual SIM handset with support for 3G, WiFi, Bluetooth and GPS. Taking care of the imaging bit is a 5 megapixel rear camera mated to a front VGA camera. Powering the hardware is a 1700 mAh battery which offers 8 hours of talktime on 3G and 12 hours on EDGE.
The handset will come in two basic colour options – Black and White and has been priced at Rs.7,499.
