In an unexpected development, Google has announced the acquisition of famous Mobile productivity suite maker Quickoffice. The latter, which has been in the mobile space for quite some time now is one of the leaders in the field and boasts of over 400 million installations on Mobile devices.
Google seems to be in an acquisition mood these days. It recently completed the $13 billion takeover of mobile phones manufacturer Motorola – news which created headlines for the past few weeks.
Coming back to Quickoffice, it remains to be seen how Google utilizes the expertise of Quickoffice and its team in improving the functionality of its existing applications. Also pertinent to note is the fact that Quickoffice usually has a paid, Pro version of most of its software. Will Google continue to charge users to get Pro versions of its software or will they choose to keep it free? We will soon find out!
An ecstatic Alan Maserak, CEO of Quickoffice wrote on the official Quickoffice blog:
“We are ushering in a new chapter with Google. By combining the magic of Google’s intuitive solutions with Quickoffice’s powerful products for mobile working, our shared vision for anytime, anywhere productivity can only grow.”
Google on its official blog welcomed all Quickoffice users and the staff in the company to the Google family and has said that it would continue to support them as they improve future Quickoffice offerings.
