Just a few days back we told you that there is a very strong chance that Google may announce the Android 2.2 Froyo this week, and guess what! It is finally out! After months of rumors and leaks the Froyo we finally have the details for the latest Android build.
The new features on the Android 2.2 Froyo will include a new JIT compiler which is capable of a 2x to 5x speed boost. The Google I/O showed a demonstration of a game running on the Android 2.2 which has managed to reach around 40 frames per second on an average managing to stay above 30 fps. There are a number of new features which are now included in the new build. Exchange has been updated to improve the experience for those who want to use Exchange Server on their Android devices. It includes much faster performance, GAL lookup and auto-discovery which is especially very useful for all those guys out there who attach to enterprise servers which have extremely huge address lists
It now has a new backup app which allows you to move your data from an old device to a new device with much more ease and efficiency. You can also use the Google translation services on the device where you can talk in English to the phone, and it will shot back the selected language in the form of text. Another very surprising feature is the WiFi tethering which is made official by Google. A brilliant demonstration at the Google I/O showed an Apple iPad WiFi connecting to the internet by tethering the two devices together.
Well, that is not all it is much more. The browser is now the world’s fastest browser, and he a new plugin for Chrome will give you the ability to grab a map on your desktop and send the directions directly to your phone from the browser. As heard before, automatic app update is now available, and it can be turned on/off from the marketplace.
The Android 2.2 Froyo will also have a web based client which will allow users to browse applications on a PC and then you can push them forward to your Android device OTA.
I have to agree that it is an extremely impressive update for the Android, and it has some really strong features for a mobile OS. Let us just hope that we get the updates much sooner, unlike the Android 2.1.
