It has become a trend of sorts for officially unannounced handsets to land in India these days. After the Windows Phone 7 powered HD7 arrived two weeks before its “official’ launch, it seems the Google Nexus S is getting the same treatment. Folks over at Infibeam, the sellers of the Phi as you know, already has an online store selling gadgets. Well the Nexus S is listed on the site as “Arriving Soon”. The price too is interesting.
The Nexus S is listed at Rs.24,000 at Infibeam which makes it quite a decently priced handset. Interestingly, this price is almost similar to the $529 price tag the device has in the US. While we are hoping for the phone to arrive at this price, we do have our reservations regarding this. Especially considering the fact that the current crop of Android handsets, the high end ones still cost about 25,000 and above. The Nexus S also happens to be the first phone to run Android 2.3 (Gingerbread).
The Nexus S boasts of a 4-inch Super AMOLED 800*480 pixel display, 1Ghz Hummingbird processor, 5 megapixel camera and a VGA front camera. Now, Rs.24,000 seems to be a good price for owning the first Gingerbread laden handset, doesn’t it?
Anyway, we would come to know how long it manages to stick to that price tag.
Update: Its been a while and the Nexus S is now listed as an April 7th launch in India at a price of Rs 27000. Clearly Infibeam here tried to get some free press in December launching a dummy page for the product. Sad!
It is because they have a wise disclaimer below saying that the tax is not included
hence, the final price would be 24,000 + 30% of 24000
Just see in ifibeam, its just a publicity stunt!
Google Nexus One is also listed there for 24k with a tag of “Coming Soon”
Noted sir, thank you
Google is developing great products! Nexus is better than my nokia 5800!
