Here is some good news for all you Samsung Galaxy S4 and HTC One Google Play Edition owners out there! Both these handsets have been confirmed to get the official update to Android 4.4 KitKat in the next few days. The news was confirmed via a Google+ post by the official Android account. Google has so far issued over the air (OTA) KitKat updates for its Nexus 4, Nexus 7 devices. Another device to get priority treatment was Google owned Motorola manufactured Moto X which also received the KitKat treatment a few days ago.
The Samsung Galaxy S4 and the HTC One Google Play Edition phones are devices that run the un-customized, stock Android version. The “normal” editions of both these devices famously run Samsung’s TouchWiz interface and HTC’s much maligned Blinkfeed interface respectively. It is therefore obvious that both devices running stock Android will get the update to KitKat before the normal editions do thanks to the lock of any customization required on the software bit while porting KitKat on to these devices.
Do you own either of these Google Play Edition phones? Let us know if you do receive a prompt for an update!
