One of the main reasons why HTC Android devices where a huge hit is because it was easily modable, but in the latest HTC devices like the Desire S, Incredible S, etc. came with a locked bootloader whcich allows the device to be rooted but no custom ROMs or kernels of any kind can be flashed onto it. Just yesterday we where hearing news about HTC reviewing its bootloader policy, and in the morning HTC confirmed that they will not be locking the bootloaders from now on through their Facebook page.
This decision was taken by HTC, mainly because the customers and users where very unhappy with decision taken by them to lock bootloaders. The decision taken by HTC is really big for the development community. It also said that Sensation 4G and Evo 3D will have an unlockable bootloader. We think that HTC is finally back in the game. Just a few months back even Sony Ericsson unlocked the bootloaders of all its current devices and started supporting the devs on system mods.
The only problem here is whether the carriers would take this decision positively? Well this question will be answered soon.
