Once doing pretty well – thanks to the headstart it received with the arrival of the Android platform, HTC has been facing one tough quarter after another thanks to increased competition from rivals like Samsung, Sony and LG. While HTC did debut some decent handsets in 2012, their success never really matched the kind of numbers that Samsung managed with its flagship devices – the Galaxy S III and the Galaxy Note 2.
With the year about to end in a few weeks time, HTC is reportedly readying a brand new flagship handset which they hope will help them compete against its traditional rivals. Nothing very substantial is known about this handset except for the fact that it has been codenamed the “M7”. Folks from over at HTC Source seem to have some information about the device though. Rumoured specs talk about the 5-inch full HD display, an aluminium Unibody chasis, a 13 megapixel camera and a Qualcomm APQ8064 quad core processor.
That said, HTC has already announced two high end handsets in Taiwan and the US – both with full HD 1080p displays so, coming up with a phone in 2013 might not exactly be pathbreaking. Also, it is clear that most of its rivals too would be working on successors to their current flagship models.
Going by HTC’s track record, if this rumor does turn out to be true, we might as well expect them to officially release this phone on or before the Mobile World Congress happens at Barcelona early next year.
