On the day the iPhone 5 made its grand debut in India, there was a subdued launch of another high end phone in the country. The phone in question happens to be the HTC One X+ which was officially showcased by HTC not long ago. The HTC One X+, as you might have assumed by now is an upgrade to the original One X which was launched in the beginning of 2012. HTC thought it would be a good idea to update its flagship as many other devices including the Galaxy S III and the iPhone 5 had arrived after its launch.
As to what the One X+ has in store for you, we start with the display which measures 4.7 inches across and has the same resolution as its predecesor – 1280*720 pixels. The phone gets a protective coating of Gorilla Glass 2. Under the hood is a quad core Nvidia Tegra 3 chipset (AP37) which chugs along at 1.7 Ghz. You might however be let down by the amount of RAM which is 1 GB. The recently announced Nexus 4 has twice the amount of RAM. But hey, 1 GB in itself is not bad at all.
At the rear is an 8 megapixel autofocus camera which also doubles up as a decent camcorder with the ability to capture videos at full HD resolution. Even the front camera, which can take still images at 1.6 megapixels is capable of video capture – albeit at 720p resolution.
Connectivity wise, almost everything is covered – except for the notable exclusion of LTE. However, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, USB and full HSDPA connectivity should keep you happy – especially considering the fact that as of now LTE connectivity at least in India is hardly a blip on the radar.
The HTC One X+ runs Android 4.1 JellyBean and also gets an updated version of the HTC’s Sense UI.
The phone is available globally in two versions – 32 GB and 64 GB. In India, HTC has launched the 64 GB version for a cool Rs. 40,190 – which is slightly on the higher side. But then, it is quite “affordable” compared to the iPhone 5, the base version of which starts for Rs. 43,000 in India.
