HTC has just announced the launch of its newest Android powered handset, the HTC Rhyme in India. The Rhyme, which was announced back in September this year features a Unibody design like most HTC handsets of today. It is slightly smaller than the most high end 4 inch plus monsters and features a 480*800 pixel, 3.7 inch display.
The display is SLCD in nature and might disappoint you folks who were expecting something more spectacular – like an AMOLED display for example.
The Rhyme is powered by a 1 Ghz Snapdragon processor housed inside the Qualcomm MSM8255 chipset. It gets 4 GB of internal storage memory and 768 MB of RAM which should be sufficient for most applications. You can of course expand the memory by using micro SD cards.
At the rear is a 5 megapixel camera which can double up as your HD camcorder – capable of capturing videos in 720p HD quality. For video call freaks, (I don’t know of any, but still!) there is a VGA camera at the front.
Connectivity options include Bluetooth 3.0 compatibility, WiFi b/g/n, DLNA and a 3.5 mm audio jack.
Inside the shell, there is a 1600 mAH battery which is rated to power the device for up to 480 minutes of talk time on WCDMA and up to 620 minutes for GSM. Standby time on the other hand is rated at up to 340 hours for WCDMA and up to 295 hours for GSM.
The phone comes with an HTC Charm accessory that is a light emitting cube that lets you keep your phone inside your bag while at the same time alerting you about incoming notifications. The HTC Rhyme also packs in what HTC calls tangle free headphones which as the name suggests, wouldn’t tangle when kept inside in your bag.
The HTC Rhyme will be available at an MRP of Rs. 29,990/- while the MOP( Best Buy) will be Rs. 27,499/. This puts the device in direct competition against the much better spec’d Samsung Galaxy S II. We might as well suggest waiting for some time for te price to come down to acceptable levels before investing your dough on this one!
