HTC has unveiled the HTC U11 EYEs upper-midrange smartphone in Taiwan, China and Hong Kong. It is the first phone from the Taiwanese smartphone manufacturer to arrive with two front-facing cameras and facial recognition feature. It also borrows some features like large-sized 18:9 aspect ratio display, premium design and massive battery from HTC U11+ that was unveiled in December 2017.
Design and Display
The U11 EYEs is blessed with 3D “Liquid Design” glass rear that has a reflective appeal like the U11+. It comes with an IP67 certified dustproof and water-resistant body. The dimensions of the smartphone are 157.9 x 74.99 x 8.5 mm and it weighs 185 grams. It comes in three color choices such as Solar Red, Ceramic Black and Amazing Silver that has a slight bluish appeal.
The smartphone features a 6-inch Super LCD 3 screen that is tucked under the layer of Corning Gorilla Glass 3. It produces a Full HD+ resolution of 2,160 x 1,080 pixels and an aspect ratio of 18:9.
Cameras and Software
The biggest highlight of the U11 EYEs is that it features a 5-megapixel dual selfie camera setup. Each of the camera sensor come with f/2.2 aperture and support 80-degree view. The dual camera setup is enabled with features like HDR Boost, full HD video shooting, live bokeh, beauty mode and AR stickers for selfies.
It houses the same f/1.7 aperture 12-megapixel UltraPixel 3 rear camera that is available on the HTC U11+. It is enabled with features like dual-LED flash, HDR Boost, Optical Image Stabilization, PDAF and 4K video recording.
The Android 8.0 Oreo that is overlaid with HTC Sense UI comes loaded on the phone. The Edge Sense feature allows users to squeeze the sides of the phone to launch desired apps or carry out certain tasks.
Performance and Other Features
The Snapdragon 652 powers the U11 EYEs along with 4 GB of RAM. It has a native storage of 64 GB and it also includes a microSD card slot. It is packed with Quick Charge 3.0 enabled 3,930mAh battery.
The rear side of the phone is fitted with a fingerprint reader. The U11 EYEs also features facial recognition feature that can unlock the phone by simply scanning the face of the user. It is able to distinguish between a real human face and still photos.
The phone comes with HTC USonic headphones with active noise cancellation which can be connected to the USB-C port of the phone. The connectivity features available on it include NFC, Bluetooth 4.2, Wi-Fi 802.11ac, 4G LTE and GPS.
HTC U11 EYEs Pricing
The HTC U11 EYEs has arrived in Taiwan, China and Hong Kong with respective pricing of 3,299 Yuan (~Rs. 32,549), HK $3,898 (~Rs. 31,650) and 14,900 TWD (~Rs. 32,000). As of this writing, there is no confirmation on the other markets that will be receiving the HTC U11 EYEs.
