HTC has officially announced the release of a new update for its mid range Android handset- the Wildfire. The update, which is also available in India, is being dispersed through an over the air mechanism and will update the handset to Android 2.2 Froyo. If you happen to own the Wildfire, you might want to check your notifications for a prompt to update to the new version. As always, we do recommend using wi-fi to download the update. If you happen to have an unlimited 3G or EDGE connection, you can use the same as well.
After you install the update, the build number of the Android version on the device will change to 2.25.720.1. To check the build number go to MENU> Settings> About Phone> Software Information> Build number.
Once you update the phone (after taking a backup of all your data, mind you?)- be sure to check out the new functionalities that include support for USB tethering, installing apps on to the memory card, support for Activesync and Wi-Fi hotspot tethering.
You might want to let us know if you do get the notification to update the handset!
I did not get any notification yet. But checking for updates in Settings -> About phone showed the 2.2 update. In the process of updating the phone now.
