With the CES barely days away from now, details of very interesting products that might see the official light of the day during that all-important week have started leaking already. Chinese cellular equipment major Huawei, who also dabbles with manufacturing their own mobile phone has already confirmed that they would be showing off their entire new and upcoming products portfolio at the CES. These included the Ascend D2 running Android and the Windows Phone 8 toting Ascend W1. What they however did not announce officially was this -> the Ascend Mate.
The Ascend Mate happens to be a “smartphone” that veers into tablet territory thanks to its humongous 6.1 inch display. The phone, though officially unannounced, was shown off by none other than a Huawei exec Richard Yu. The device was shown to consumers at a store in Guangzhou, China. Users there were smart enough to capture the entire device on video and post it to YouTube. Pictures were captured as well.
Little is known about the specifications of the handset. The word is that it runs a fairly new version of Android, boasts of a 1080p display with a 361 ppi pixel density. Under the hood is a 1.8Ghz HiSilicon K3v3 quad-core chip. The phone is just 9.9 mm thin and a houses a much needed 4,00mAh battery.
The phone will make its official debut at the CES. The company has not hinted at any specific launch date. The news of this 6.1 inch display toting handset comes close on the heels of reports that surfaced pointing towards the possibility of Samsung launching a Galaxy Note II successor soon with a huge 6.3 inch display!
