Earlier today, Huawei had held a press event at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES 2018) to announce the arrival of the Mate 10 Pro and Mate 10 Porsche Design in the U.S. markets. These flagship phones will be arriving in the U.S. from the next month. Previous reports had suggested that the Mate 10 Pro could be the first flagship phone from the company to be available through local carriers in the U.S. However, the Chinese manufacturer has confirmed that the Mate 10 Pro models will be sold unlocked in the U.S. through popular retailers.
Huawei Mate 10 Pro
The Mate 10 Pro will be available in the U.S. in three colors like Mocha Brown, Midnight Blue and Black. Even though it is available in multiple storage and RAM variants in other markets, the U.S. will be receiving only its 6 GB RAM + 128 GB storage model with a price tag of $799.
Since it is an unlocked model, it will work with GSM carriers like AT&T, T-Mobile, Cricket, MetroPCS, Simple Mobile and Tracfone. It will be available on pre-orders starting from 4th February through retailing partners like Amazon, Best Buy, Microsoft, New Egg and B&H Photo. Buyers who pre-order the Mate 10 Pro will be getting a $150 gift-care rebate. The shipments of the smartphone will start on 18th February.
The Mate 10 Pro features a 6-inch AMOLED display that supports an aspect ratio of 18:9. It produces a Full HD+ resolution of 1,080 x 2,160 pixels. The homegrown Kirin 970 chipset that is accompanied by a Neural Processing Unit (NPU) for handling AI tasks powers the flagship phone. It comes pre-installed with EMUI 8.0 based Android 8.0 Oreo. There is no microSD card slot on the phone.
Apart from the fingerprint scanner, the rear panel also features a Leica certified 12-megapixel + 20-megapixel dual camera setup. It has a selfie camera of 8-megapixel. The 4,000mAH battery of the Mate 10 Pro supports fast charging through Huawei’s SuperCharge technology.
Huawei Mate 10 Pro Porsche Design
Compared to the most expensive iPhone – the 256 GB iPhone X that is priced at $1,149, the custom-designed Mate 10 Pro Porsche Design carries a costlier pricing of $1,225. Amazon, Best Buy and Microsoft will be selling the smartphone starting from 18th February. Porsche Design Stores will begin sales of the smartphone starting from the end of next month.
The Mate 10 Pro Porsche Design comes in an exclusive color of Diamond Black. The premium smartphone features glass unibody design with vertical patterned stripes on the back panel. It runs on a customized version of EMUI that is based on Android 8.0 Oreo.
The Porsche Design branding is placed on the chin of the device whereas a logo can be seen sitting below the rear-mounted fingerprint reader. The package of the phone includes a pair of earbuds, some adapters and a premium leather case by Montblanc, a luxury brand from Germany.
As far as the specifications of the Mate 10 Pro is concerned, it is packed with the exact same specs as the Mate 10 Pro. However, the only difference is that it comes with an increased internal storage.
Huawei has signed up Gal Gadot, a well-known Israeli actress who starred in “Wonder Woman” movie, as the official brand ambassador for the U.S. market. Huawei is currently the third largest smartphone manufacturer in the world and it aims to compete with Apple and Samsung in the U.S. Hence, it will be relying on the star power of Gadot to increase the popularity of its devices in the U.S.
