Indian mobile manufacturer Micromax has roped in Hollywood actor Hugh Jackman as its brand ambassador. His association with Micromax will start with the launch of their new phone the Micromax Canvas Turbo, expected to be launched soon. The X-Men star who is well known for his role as the character Wolverine was in praise of the brand and his admiration for the country. He also shares his admiration for Cricket.
“I am extremely thrilled and honoured to be part of the Micromax family. I am a huge lover of India as it is one of the most exciting countries in the world and we also share our love for cricket” Jackman said.
Micromax has acquired a considerable 22 percent share in the price-centric Indian market. It ranks second according to the IDC report in terms of the number of smartphone sales in India. Only Samsung stands above them with 26 percent. Micromax certainly wants to raise their brand value acquiring Hugh Jackman as brand ambassador due to his immense fan following. On his Facebook page, Hugh Jackman has over 4.5 million likes while his Twitter account @RealHughJackman has over 3.2 million followers.
The new teaser by Micromax states that “Hugh Jackman is ready to rev it up with the Micromax Canvas Turbo. Coming Soon!”
“Phones are genuinely time saving devices that can help you live a better life while juggling around with different situations. The new Canvas phone from Micromax is a leap in innovation with great sense of fun and amazing features that helps me balance my work with all the different roles that I play in my everyday life” he added.
It is unsure whether Micromax wishes to enter the International market, but are certainly signalling their intent to take Samsung head on in India with this acquisition. The Canvas Turbo is set to be Micromax’s latest flagship phone and set to be priced above Canvas 4 and the Canvas Doodle 2. It is likely to be the first Micromax phone to house a 1080p full HD display.
Actors becoming brand ambassadors for smartphones is indeed a rising trend in India. Ranbir Kapoor for Blackberry, Priyanka Chopra for Nokia and Katrina Kaif for Sony. It certainly came as a shock to many when Hugh Jackman agreed to sign up for Micromax. With the Wolverine representing Micromax, maybe a certain other Indian manufacturer could look at roping in some super-hero(ine) from Marvel’s Avengers, preferably Scarlett Johansson!
