With a plethora of low-end Android smartphones coming in to the fray, the smartphone market is fragmented like never before. Well some companies don’t see it as an almost saturated market and are willing to risk it all, for a piece of the hot Android pie. All said and done, let’s welcome the new Andi 2, an Android based phone from iBall.
Andi 2 is the second offering from a well known Indian tech firm, as a successor to its very first Android enabled smartphone Andi. The phone limits itself with basic prerequisites such as 3.5mm earphone jack, 3.5 inch capacitive display, 3-megapixel camera with a VGA front camera, micro-SD support and 3G capabilities.
Well to be fair, iBall has almost doubled the processor speed to 800MHz and it includes a bigger 1450 mAh battery in its latest offering. The phone is equipped with all the connectivity options like Bluetooth, GPRS, Wi-Fi and 3G.
Though one thing that pinches the eye is that, at a price tag of Rs. 9,999, the phone runs on the obsolete Android 2.2 OS. At a time when there are tech giants like Samsung coming up with devices like the Galaxy Y which are priced way below at around Rs. 7,000 with Android 2.3, iBall’s offering seems to be a bit overpriced to say the least; and we haven’t even got to the overall user experience here.
