Idea Telecom is all set to release its online application store with the help of Ericsson’s eStore concept, a web store for various mobile applications. According to Idea, any handset with Web browsing ability will be able to access the store for nearly 30,000 applications covering a variety of segments including entertainment, lifestyle and games. The move is significant as Idea is also getting readyto launch its 3G services, and the online app store will be stacked with apps that could be used on its 3G network. With this, Idea has joined the list of service providers that are providing their own application stores to their subscribers.
The store will be based on Ericsson’s unique eStore, that can be shared by many operators at the same time but can be specifically customised for a specific network provider – as for Idea, in this case. The application store has been readied by Ericsson and will be maintained completely by them. According to another release from Ericsson, they will also be enabling push email service for Idea Telecom in days to come.
Idea’s own website does not say anything about the application store yet, but we have got a shot of what Ericsson’s eStore looks like (check the screenshot). There have been no announcements made regarding the app prices, but we are sure Idea’s 84 million subscribers must be optimistic.
