India has its first Android dual SIM phone , the Motorola Milestone XT800. The phone, which is capable of handling CDMA and GSM networks, runs Android 2.1 and carries what we think, is a stiff price tag of Rs 31,999. The phone’s tech specs feature a 5 megapixel shooter with auto focus and dual LED flash, a 3.7 inch multi touch capacitive touch screen, 480*854 display resolution, WiFi , A-GPS and HDMI support. The phone supports expandable memory up to 32GB.
After the first Milestone and XT720, the Milestone XT800 sees a change in form factor – while the earlier versions were rectangular with straight lines, XT 800 is curvaceous and more oval with smooth edges. That said it has a screen of the same size and resolution as those worthies.
That said, Android 2.1 is surely looking archaic now, considering that version 2.3 is already out. And the XT is no newcomer – it made its debut more than a year ago and, China even has recently got its successor, the Milestone XT800+Zeppellin running on Android 2.2. Motorola only mentions that the phone is Android 2.2 ready but does not specify when the upgrade will be available and considering that none of its handsets in India has it, that could be a while. Ironic, when one considers that Motorola was the first company to get an Android 2.1 device in India – the Milestone in 2010.
Of course, we will know more when we actually get our hands on the device, which should be soon. We are in particular interested how the battery guzzling Android will perform on a dual SIM device. Stay tuned.
