iOS 4.2 on 7th Nov? Android Gingerbread SDK on 11th?

The war of the mobile OS is getting intense. With newer platforms coming up every few months, the existing ones are updating faster than every before. It is rumored that Apple’s much awaited iOS update v4.2 would be out on 7th November while the Gold Master version is already out with plenty of igeeks playing around with it. Apple approving games for iOS 4.2 (taking advantage of the game center) only adds weight to the rumor. Apparently Apple is also battling an alarm bug which should be resolved on 7th Nov.

iPad users, excited about multitasking? Is iOS 4.2 right in time to counter the Galaxy Tab?

At the same time, the buzz from Cupertino is that Android 2.3 aka Gingerbread SDK would be up for developers as soon as 11th November. Google has kept quite on what Gingerbread or for that matter Honeycomb / Ice-cream would bring to us, but given that WebOS, iOS, WP7, RIM all are making a move – this version of Android might well add the much needed aesthetic update to the UI.

  • “Apparently Apple is battling a alarm bug and has promised a fix for the same on 7th Nov, thus prompting the 4.2 release date.”

4.1 Will not be affected by the bug from the 8th. As the week will no longer straddle both sets of time.
