Karbonn Mobiles becomes the first company to bring in the latest version of the Android world to the Indian technological shores by introducing the country’s first budget tablet Karbonn ‘Smart Tab 1’ which runs on the Android 4.1 ‘Jelly Bean’ platform.
The ‘Smart Tab 1’ incorporates processor architectures and cores for networking that are powered by MIPS Technologies, that features extremely low power consumption, lightening fast 1.2GHz performance and a high level of functional integration.

The company plans to dominate the tablet segment, by targeting two hundred thousand (200,000) units per month, focussing on enterprise business solutions segmentation, education, healthcare & hospitality and new-age business verticals. Karbonn confirmed that the Jelly Bean update will be rolled out to existing users of the Smart Tab.
The Smart Tab 1 features a 17.8cm capacitive 5-point touch screen powered by a 3,700 mAh battery; a 3D gravity sensor, Wi-Fi and 3G support through USB dongle, along with a 2MP front camera.
Although it’s a first in India, the Smart Tab 1 is the second tab in the world, to run on Android 4.1 Jelly Bean platform; the first being Google Nexus 7.

The device is priced at Rs. 6990 and will be available for pre-booking at the Karbonn website.
What Karbonn has managed to achieve is amazing considering the other international Android OEM’s are still struggling to bring ICS to their devices and Karbonn has managed to put them to shame by bringing up a tablet which boasts of Android’s latest iteration, i.e. Jelly Bean. Though, we hope that the other manufacturers catch up soon with Jelly Bean and existing devices are upgraded to JB as soon as possible.
