India based manufacturer of low cost mobile phones and tablets, Karbonn Mobile has revealed that they are planning to release a low-cost Android powered tablet in India soon. This tablet, expected to be priced at the sub 5000k mark will be launched by the first week of October, the company revealed.
Karbonn Mobiles had just a few days ago announced the launch of a new Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean) laden tablet called the Smart Tab 1 for an attractive price tag of Rs. 6999. This product is particularly noteworthy considering the fact that most other major players on the tablet segment are yet to come out with new Android 4.1 laden tablets.
The company’s MD Pradeep Jain informed that the company’s aim is to bring affordable, feature packed products to the market and that this sub Rs.5000 tablet is a part of that aim. Incidentally, fellow competitor Zync has already announced a sub Rs.5000 tablet in India a few days ago. So, Karbonn is likely to face some stiff competition in this segment as well.
As for this tablet, Karbonn hasn’t revealed much detail about it – except for the fact that it will sport a 1.2 Ghz processor. Karbonn Mobiles claimed that they managed to sell around 50,000 tablets in July alone and that they are looking to increase that figure to around 1.5 lakh to 2 lakh units in October.
The company added that they are as of now not intending to manufacture their tablets in India while also revealing that currently their products are sourced from China and Taiwan.
