Chinese smartphone manufacturer Lenovo is now aggressively targeting India as a market to sell their smartphones and tablets. They have launched a Smart Connected Devices store in Delhi. This store opened after the success of their first store in Pune which opened earlier this year. The stores will have Lenovo’s laptops, tablets and smartphones on display. The highlight of these stores will be the dedicated area to allow customers to get live audio and gaming demos. Lenovo is targeting malls to open these stores as footfalls are high in shopping centres. They plan to open these stores in other cities too. If all goes as per plan then there should be forty such stores by the end of this year.
They have also released a tablet called the A8-50. It has an eight inch display with the resolution of 1280×800 pixels taking the pixel density to 189 PPI. The device comes with 16GB storage which can be expandable to 32GB and has a 4200 mAh battery. The rear camera has a 5 Megapixel sensor and it also has a front facing 2 Megapixel camera for video calls, etc. The tablet is priced at Rs. 17,500. This is quite expensive when compared to their competitors who sell tablets with similar specs at lower prices. For eg – the Dell Venue 8 and Digiflip Pro are much cheaper and have the same screen size and similar camera specs.
Lenovo is not the only Chinese company to target Indians as a potential buyers. Xiaomi, Gionee and Huawei too are luring Indians with products that boast of great spaces and are reasonably priced. Xiaomi has met with maximum success as its Mi3 and Redmi 1S were sold out within seconds since then went on sale on Flipkart. Opting for an online only approach to sell products help in bringing down prices. The fact that Lenovo is opening their own stores, it is obvious that it isn’t going that way.
