At an event held earlier today in Mumbai, Lenovo kicked of the 20th anniversary celebrations of of the iconic ThinkPad brand by announcing a refreshed version of its top of the line X1 notebook. This refreshed version of the ThinkPad X1 is powered by Intel’s latest Core processors and is claimed to be the world’s thinnest 14 inch ultra book. As you might have guessed, the “Carbon” moniker in the name could only mean one thing. That’s right, the body of the latest generation ThinkPad X1 is made of ultra strong – but equally light Carbon fiber.
The ThinkPad X1 Carbon weighs less than 1.36 kgs which makes it incredibly portable considering its dimunitive size. depending on the model you buy, the laptop is also enabled with 3G conenctivity options so you can be online anywhere without the hassles of using a data card. the battery is rated to offer up to 6.3 hours of battery life. It also boasts of something known as RapidCharge which lets users charge the laptop to 80 percent capacity in just 30 minutes. The SSD based variants of the laptop can boot up to 40 percent faster than non optimized Windows 7 powered devices.
The 14 inch display on the device has a resolution of 1600*900 which Lenovo terms HD+. It also boasts of Dolby® Home Theater® v4 sound capability. Apart from the larger multitouch gentures capable trackpad, the new X1 also features a new KeyBoard design which claims to have better ergonomics. It also offers users 30 percent more surface area than its predecessor.
Like we mentioned, the X1 is powered by Intel’s third generation Core processors with the consumer having the option to choose from a base Core i3 based system to a top of the line Core i5 based variant. Lenovo has priced the base variant of the notebook at Rs.85,000. The base core i5 based version os about 7k more expensive. The base Core i7 based ThinkPad X1 will set you back by almost a lakh.
