Lenovo Yoga 10 and Yoga 8 Android Tablets Announced

Lenovo a few hours ago unveiled its new range of “Yoga” branded tablets. The new devices which come in two screen sizes seem to be directed straight at the mid range buyers who are on the lookout for a decently spec’d – but not too expensive tablet. Let’s delve into the specifications of the devices so that you get a better idea as to how these compare with competing devices. Just to make things clearer, the new devices are the Yoga 10 and the Yoga 8 – the numbers obviously depicting the screen sizes of each of the devices.

Design
Both the new Yoga tablets feature a unique design – with tapering edges and a curved, circular bulge at the other end. Now, instead of just adding to the looks of the product, the curved “hinge” (if we may call it that) allows the tablet to be used in various modes – namely tilt, hold and stand. Lenovo has also added a kickstand to the bulge allowing it greater flexibility whilst in the tilt mode. Being mid range products, these devices come with a screen resolution of 1280*800 pixels – which might be underwhelming in these days of high resolution AMOLED and Retna displays – but hey ,this should not be THAT shoddy either.

Processor
To start with, both the Yoga 10 and the Yoga 8 boast of MediaTek’s  MT 8125 chipset which houses a quad core processor running at 1.2 Ghz. Now, this chipset from the Taiwanese silicon maker is known to be a low cost, budget product and for the same reason, do not expect either of these products to do great with benchmarks. It would also be OK to expect a few stuttering and lags when you try to run processor and graphic intensive stuff stuff on it. There is 1 GB of RAM – which is sufficient – but not exactly what you can term high end. Nothing spectacular here..

Others
Other features include  large 6000 and 8000 mAH battery capacities that according to Lenovo endows both the devices with superior battery life and offering up to an incredible 18 hours of normal usage. The camera is a 5 megapixel unit at the rear which can also capture videos. There is 16 GB of internal memory that can be further expanded using Micro SD cards.

Pricing and Availability
Both the tablets are on sale in the US now. While the Lenovo Yoga Tablet 8 will retail for $249, the Tablet 10 will set you back by $299. At this point, we are unsure if an Indian launch is on the cards. But then, it does make sense for Lenovo to bring these here because if its mid range-ness.
